Danny Kim

Danny Kim is an award winning documentary filmmaker based in Seoul, South Korea. A video
journalist turned documentary filmmaker with more than 15 years of experience, he has worked in
newsrooms in South Korea. He started his career in Seoul as an intern at the ABC News Seoul Bureau
and worked as a video journalist with AFP in Seoul, and then spent years as a freelance videographer to
global news media such as the Economist, VICE NEWS, and WSJ.  
His first feature documentary film "Love Child" (2014) as a producer has screened at such festivals as
Sundance, Jeonju International Film Festival, and had a first look broadcast deal with HBO Documentary
Films. His recent credits include director/writer/editor/DP for feature documentary "Zero Waste" (2023)
which won the emerging filmmaker award at the 39th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and the
Green Award at the Terraviva Film Festival in Bologna, Italy. 
Kim is also a founder of Docu+, an impact film studio based in Seoul, South Korea with clients across the
globe with multiple co-production partners in Japan and the U.S. and currently developing various
projects including docu-series and fiction narrative. 
He is an active member of Asian American Documentary Network (A-Doc), International Documentary
Association (IDA) and the Director’s Guild of Korea (DGK). Kim has an MFA in Experimental and
Documentary Arts from Duke University in the U.S. and is a graduate from University of Wisconsin-
Madison, where he earned Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts – Radio, TV & Film. An avid traveler
and cinephile, he is a programmer, juror and lecturer when he’s not focusing on producing films.
