An example
Always keep a promise to a source: In 1986, I covered a hearing about Honolulu’s most heavily used golf course, the Ala Wai. The 35-year-old daughter of a player did not testify but said she would let me paraphrase their concerns if I called her before going to print to verify my summary. I did not and got their concerns wrong. She called after and said she would never talk to another reporter again.

NOTE: This PDF shows a photo of the golf course, illustrating the mistake with a headline highlighting lesson learned from mistake.
