    As Senior Manager for Digital Strategy at INQUIRER.net. Ralph Gurango ensures that Inquirer.net’s content reaches its readers across the page, social media, and other emerging platforms. In his role, he works with the editorial, video, and digital teams to maximize performance, reach, and engagement. He also leads its community engagement efforts, particularly through the Inquirer Volunteers initiative, which trains campus journalists and media students to cover key national and local news events in the Philippines.

    A seasoned media professional with a diverse background in broadcast and digital marketing, he also leads Inquirer.net’s innovation efforts in generative AI and its potential content and commercial applications, having completed accelerator programs with the Google News Initiative, WAN-IFRA, and OpenAI. Recently, he has also served as the coordinator for SEA vs. Plastics, a cross-border journalism project involving multimedia newsrooms from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore.

      Climate change is among the most consequential stories of our time. Environmental reporting however routinely collides with powerful political and economic interests, while shrinking newsroom budgets leave little room for the ambitious, sustained coverage the crisis demands. Transforming climate journalism requires a fundamental shift in approach: embracing its inherently cross-border nature, pooling resources across newsrooms, and producing stories that drive tangible impact for the communities most affected.

      The Climate Collaboration Challenge Asia, launched by AAJA-Asia, the Temasek Foundation, and climateXchange, is rising to that challenge. This session showcases the programme's participating teams, each delivering a five-minute pitch of their collaborative cross-border climate project before a jury of senior news professionals. The winning consortium(s) will receive a grant of up to USD 15,000 to develop and publish their work.

      Before the winners' announcement, Ralph Gregor, Senior Manager for Digital Strategy at Inquirer.net will present "Asean vs. Plastic" - a crossborder collaborative journalism project involving Deduktif.id (Indonesia) Inquirer.net (Philippines), Malaysiakini (Malaysia), Mediacorp (Singapore), which was awarded a grant at N3Con 2025. Ralph will share with the audience the challenges the participating newsrooms met for jointly produce this exciting projects and the lessons they learned in the process.
