    Liza Lin is a China tech reporter and editor for The Wall Street Journal based in Singapore, writing about technology and Sino-U.S. business relations. Liza was part of teams at the Journal that were named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in International Reporting and the winner of the Gerald Loeb Award for International Reporting. Liza is the co-author with Journal colleague Josh Chin of the book “Surveillance State: Inside China’s Quest to Launch a New Era of Social Control.” A Fulbright scholar, she has also worked for Bloomberg News in Singapore and China.

      Out of passion for a beat or a story they've extensively covered, following the call of a literary vocation or simply looking for an alternative source of revenues, many journalists have been tempted to write and publish a book. "Every good journalist has a novel in him - which is an excellent place for it", supposedly said Harper Magazine's managing editor, Russel Lynes. But fiction is only one option among many. In this session, journalists who have gone through the experience of writing and publishing books will share their experiences and lessons learnt, from the writing process to dealing with publishers and promoting their work. Was it worth all the trouble? And if so, what will they do differently for their next book?
