Hon Yuen Leong

Hon Yuen Leong, an independent documentary director, producer, and journalist from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has more than three decades of experience in print, online, and broadcast media.
In 2009, she established Factual TV to explore challenging environment, intangible heritage, and human-interest stories. Her films intricately intertwine multiple storylines, adding depth to the main narrative.
Hon Yuen is also a grantee of the Southeast Asia Rainforest Journalism Fund, Al Jazeera’s Viewfinder Asia and Discovery Channel First Time Filmmakers Malaysia. As one of 15 selected European and Asian directors who gained invaluable mentorship at Crossing Borders South Korea, Hon Yuen now passes on her knowledge by training marginalised communities, empowering them to create their own compelling narratives. She holds a double major BA (Hons) in English Literature & Rhetoric and Theatre from the State University of New York, Binghamton, along with a MA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Technology Sydney.
