    Audrey Tan is an assistant news editor at The Straits Times, where she supervises coverage of environmental issues in Singapore and the region. Audrey is an award-winning journalist with over a decade’s worth of journalism under her belt, and has over the course of her career pursued stories related to climate change and international climate negotiations, biodiversity conservation and the illegal wildlife trade, as well as transboundary environmental issues such as haze pollution. She holds a master’s degree in climate science and policy from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

      Governmental and non-governmental organizations around the world seem to have finally grasped the urgency of climate change and the key role that environmental reporting can play to identify issues, hold governments and corporations accountable and inform citizens. Even though funding supporting climate reporting has become more widely available, producing quality climate journalism remains a challenge due to the complexity of the issues, their transnational nature, and the many interests at stake. This session will explore how Asian journalists and media outlets are facing these challenges. What kind of specific resources and processes have they developed to cover that beat? What would be needed to make cross-border collaborations easier and climate reporting more impactful?
