Chun Han Wong covers Chinese politics and foreign policy for The Wall Street Journal. As a China-focused reporter for the Journal since 2014, he has written widely on subjects spanning elite politics, Communist Party doctrine, human and labor rights, as well as defense and diplomatic affairs. He spent five years in Beijing until 2019, when the Chinese government refused to renew his press credentials and forced him to leave mainland China. He then moved to Hong Kong to continue writing about Chinese politics.
Chun Han was part of a team of WSJ reporters named as Pulitzer Prize finalists in 2021 for their coverage of China’s autocratic turn under Xi Jinping. His book on Xi’s leadership, “Party of One: The Rise of Xi Jinping and China’s Superpower Future,” is being published by Avid Reader Press in May 2023.
