A British journalist in Hong Kong since 2005, Tom is the editor-in-chief and co-founder of Hong Kong Free Press – the only non-profit, independent English-language news source in the city. Run by journalists, HKFP was Hong Kong’s first crowdfunded media outlet following its record-breaking campaign in 2015.
Tom holds a BA in Communications & New Media from the University of Leeds and an MA in Journalism from the University of Hong Kong. His freelance writing and photography has been featured in Quartz, Global Post, Huffington Post, Time Out, w Internationalist, Ming Pao and others. He also contributed to BBC World TV, BBC Radio, Channel News Asia, Sky News, RTHK Radio and Al-Jazeera English.
In 2012, Tom founded a Hong Kong news and culture platform, hongwrong.com. In 2013, he co-founded a multimedia advocacy and legal campaign for domestic workers.
