N3ConU

Where Tomorrow’s Journalists Engage Today’s Media

Welcome to N3ConU, the student experience at the New. Now. Next Media Conference.

N3Con is one of the top Asia-focused educational platforms for journalism students and journalists at every stage of their career, to learn, exchange ideas and network with professionals from both inside and outside of the industry.

We take pride in featuring numerous award-winning journalists who share their knowledge and experience in some of the best and most up-to-date educational, skills training and professional development programs annually.

For the second straight year, we are running N3ConU to enhance the student experience by integrating our educational, networking and mentoring services through our broad network of media organizations and veteran journalists across the region.

The New. Now. Next Media Conference will give the next generation of journalists a solid foundation to evolve with the changes. It’s the perfect opportunity for students and aspiring journalists to get a taste of the field.

N3ConU is a program created to provide tomorrow’s journalists with the tools and mentoring to get ahead after graduation.

N3ConU is both for students based in Hong Kong and those coming from overseas. This year, we are welcoming back student groups from Canada and students from all over Asia to experience N3ConU.

For Students

Mentoring

N3Con offers students the unique opportunity to network and learn from the leading journalists from all over Asia. Connect with a professional for resume evaluations and job advice.  Both programs are open to students and journalists of all levels.

Resume Doctor N3ConU offers a speed-mentoring session to offer both students and young journalists quick tips on how to best present themselves on their resume, reel and website. Veteran journalists and media professionals look over the mentees’ materials on-site and advise them on how to target the next step in their career. Applications for Resume Doctor are open until slots are filled.

N3ConU Mentor Match AAJA-Asia seeks to take mentoring to the next step with the creation of N3ConU Mentor Match, a year-long specialized mentoring program designed to give mentors and mentees a more comprehensive experience. Mentees apply for the program in March, with the opportunity to meet in person at N3Con. The pairs may keep in touch remotely, with updates by email, phone or video chat at least every quarter. It is the localized version of AAJA National’s Mentor Match, which is revamped this year.

Mentor Match applicants are now closed for 2019. Learn about the Class of 2018 and meet the 2018 mentors.

Socials

An important part of understanding Hong Kong, often dubbed the New York City of Asia, is learning about its vibrant underbelly. With many students visiting Hong Kong for the first time, local AAJA-Asia student members are designing food and sightseeing activities that will help you get the fullest experience in this bustling metropolis. There will be plenty of opportunities to mingle with journalists, students and veteran media professionals through networking parties, student-only socials, and at the conference sidelines. You’ll also have an opportunity to tour the University of Hong Kong and learn about the degree programs at its renowned Journalism and Media Studies Centre. All N3Con student ticket holders will get news about N3ConU socials happening May 30–June 2.

For Organizers

Overseas Tours

AAJA-Asia’s key principles include establishing a strong foundation for the next generation of journalists. N3Con offers diverse benefits for students and young journalists from mentorship with veterans to opportunities to meet recruiters.

With universities now seeking opportunities to offer global learning journeys to their students, in 2018, AAJA-Asia launched N3ConU to offer a specialized experience for students visiting Hong Kong. On top of attending the leading East-meets-West media conference in Asia, our key offerings for students include newsroom tours, mentoring, networking with leading journalists and other young journalists from Hong Kong and greater Asia.

By inviting universities abroad, we hope to build bridges across borders, foster young journalists to cover Asia with a broader perspective, and inspire them to push their career possibilities.

As many students are visiting Hong Kong for the first time, we will run tours to leading newsrooms, offer direct access to top editors, provide guidance on field reporting trips, arrange specialized workshops, provide mentoring with veteran members and recommend other great experiences to take advantage of this bustling Asian media hub. We can tailor an experience of 3-10 days based on your budget to fit your students’ needs.

Beyond Hong Kong, we can also work with you to bring students to other key cities such as Seoul, Tokyo or Singapore, where we have broad membership bases.

All proceeds get cycled back into AAJA-Asia’s career-building offerings, such as fellowships and workshop stipends.
