Neil runs Asia business coverage at The Wall Street Journal, driving everything from scoops to deep-dive investigations — including a 2017 series of stories getting inside China’s push to build the world’s most technologically advanced surveillance state. Prior to that, Neil worked for Bloomberg News where he led investigative reporting in Asia, notably an award-winning project that exposed the hidden wealth of China’s political leaders. He has also worked as Asia features editor for Agence France-Presse, having cut his teeth at newspapers in the U.K and Hong Kong. Neil is a former president of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Hong Kong.
