Carla Sapsford Newman is a freelance journalist and public affairs consultant in Singapore. She was formerly on the management team at Malaysia’s Business FM 89.9 for seven years. She served as a producer in 2017 for a segment on rising extremism in Malaysia.
Before moving to Asia, she was based in the Netherlands and worked in communications and knowledge management for Unilever, Shell and ABN AMRO. She also freelanced for the Boston Globe and Daily News on terrorism attacks and rising extremism in Amsterdam and on war crimes trials in The Hague. Upon graduation from Columbia, she worked in New York as an associate producer at ABC News. She started her career in the nonprofit sector. Carla received her M.A. in Journalism and her M.S. in International Affairs from SIPA in 2003. She received her undergraduate diploma in International Relations from Wellesley College in 1995.
